The fictional worlds of children’s books and films are ripe with gender stereotypes. Female characters are underrepresented, simplified, and typically hold back their anger to appear like ‘good girls.’ Meanwhile, male characters typically appear strong, domineering, and entitled. Signý Kolbeinsdóttir, co-founder and creator of Tulipop, sees that these stereotypes have no basis in reality. Humans are complex and act in ways that transgress traditional ideas of gender. She wants her stories to portray such characters so that children may relate to them and find inspiration to be themselves.

We recently joined a small army of superheroes and a legion of brilliantly-dressed cosplayers at the superb WonderCon, hosted at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California.

With it being Batman’s 80th birthday, the celebrations were extra special and we were thrilled to see so many people dressed as the famous caped crusader: there were Dark Knights to be seen in every direction!

We are so excited about the upcoming Easter holidays here at Tulipop and are thoroughly enjoying our festive makeover. Even Fred is getting in on the action and has donned a rather eye-catching beak for the occasion. We think he looks super, wouldn’t you agree?

We absolutely love surprises and want to tell you more about our magical range of Tulipop blind boxes, which are finally back in stock! The fabulous creative team at Toynami – America’s leading specialty manufacturer of collectible toys – worked closely with Tulipop’s creator and head designer, Signý Kolbeinsdóttir, to produce each beautifully-illustrated blind box containing a 3.5" original vinyl figure complete with diorama from the enchanting world of Tulipop.

We are super excited to share with you news that the first episodes of series two of our awesome animated series is now live on the Tulipop YouTube channel. This second series, comprising a further 10 episodes, follows the popular first series (10 episodes x 2,5 min) which was launched in late 2017, and rapidly received more than 3 million views on YouTube on Tulipop’s English, German and Spanish channels., in addition to being dubbed in Icelandic and broadcast on Icelandic National TV.

The Tuliblog spoke to Signý Kolbeinsdóttir, Tulipop’s Creative Director about the animation journey so far.

The holiday season offers a beautiful time to be with the people you love. In Iceland, this couldn’t be more true –here, the holidays are all about spending time with family!

That’s why we’ve created this list of things for you to do in Reykjavík together with your loved ones. We’ve made it with an eye for our holiday traditions so you can also experience a taste of Iceland.

We attended DesignerCon 2018 and it was a blast!

At the event, our co-founder Signý Kolbeinsdóttir was able to meet some of you, enjoy a buzzing creative environment, and talk with some amazingly talented artists.

Welcome to the new Tuliblog!

We are excited to start this blog which will cover everything from crafting the Tulipop world, our new projects, our “home-country” Iceland, and more. We’ll include interviews with the Tulipop team for you to get to know us all and the ideas behind the Tulipop world better.
